[00:00:00] Foreign. [00:00:06] Hey, welcome to the Summer Journey podcast with Tavin and Ella. [00:00:17] Hi, guys. Welcome back to week six of our podcast. [00:00:24] Last week, we talked about how David played for Saul. Saul. [00:00:29] Yeah, he played the Lear. The Lear. [00:00:33] And our code word was service or. Yeah, yeah, service. [00:00:44] Got that. Be sure to show us. [00:00:48] Today, we will be talking about David defeating Goliath. Yes. My favorite. [00:00:57] Okay, so. [00:01:00] Okay, so basically where we left off, David was with Saul, and he was there to ward off bad spirits because Saul was scared of them, and the spirits were like, evil spirits were upon him and all of that. [00:01:15] So at this time, the Philistines gathered for war against Israel. So remember this. [00:01:24] David was put in charge of carrying Saul's armor at this point as well. [00:01:30] So he would be around during this time. [00:01:33] So the big person in this. [00:01:38] What is it? Oh, the big, like, enemy, I guess, would be Goliath. So his name was Goliath. He's. They called him champion, and he was nine feet and nine inches tall. Like, imagine your doorway. Your doorway is seven and a half feet. [00:01:58] So imagine, like, two feet taller than that and four more inches. [00:02:03] That's insane. [00:02:06] So. [00:02:08] So this dude, he was a big guy, and, like, he had those big muscles as well. He wasn't all just, like, I don't know, tall. [00:02:15] He had. He had muscles, and he wore bronze armor. Now, the thing about bronze, bronze is heavy. So this weighed about 125 pounds. So, like, that's about the size of me. Like, a little less than the size of me, but, like, that's crazy. You guys think you could carry me around, like, all day? [00:02:38] Yeah. And so then he. [00:02:41] He shouted to the Israelites, why are you lining up for battle, dude? This dude's ego is crazy. About as tall as him. [00:02:54] And he told the Israelites to choose one of their men and to have them have him come down to fight him. To fight Goliath, right? [00:03:04] And he said, if he wins, we will be your servants. But if I win, then you will be servants. Dude's, like, making bets because he thinks he's all of that in a bag of chips. It's like he, like, knows he's gonna win. Yeah. [00:03:19] Oh. So, okay, after that, Goliath kept threatening them. So he would threaten the Israelites every morning and every evening for 40 days. Wouldn't stop. Dude was determined. He was 40 days. And Saul and his army were, like, so scared. They're like, we don't want to do that, too, though. Honestly, 40 days. [00:03:41] Come fight me. That is more a month. Imagine if somebody. Oh, no, I Couldn't. I couldn't. [00:03:47] Yeah. That's crazy. So then one day, Jesse sent his son. David. David. We know David. Yes. To bring supplies to his brothers who were in the Israelite army. [00:03:58] David heard the words that Goliath used to threaten the Israelites. So David said, who does Goliath think he is? [00:04:07] That he should mock the living God and his army? [00:04:12] Yeah. I mean, honestly, real, though, like, who does he think he is? But also, David, remember, like, from the beginning when, like, the sons are being chosen and, like, David was, like, the smallest, scrawniest of youngest. So imagine that he's like, who does he think he is? Yeah. Like, this little, tiny dude. [00:04:33] So someone, like, heard what David said. Like, who do. Who does Goliath think he is? And they reported that to Saul. They're like, oh, my gosh. Guess what just happened? And so Saul got David to him. And David. David said to Saul, don't let anyone be afraid of the Philistine. I will go and fight him. Since Saul was like, you can't go and fight Goliath. You're just a young man. You're a little boy. [00:04:59] You little boy. [00:05:03] But then David answered, like, full confidence. Yeah. [00:05:11] He said, I have been tending to my father's sheep when a lion or a bear came and carried off a lamb. I went after it, struck it down, and rescued the lamb. The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion, and the bear will rescue me from the hand of the Philistines. I mean, you can't argue with that. Yeah. [00:05:33] He has backup. He's like, well, I did this, this, and this. Then I could fight him. Yeah. [00:05:40] And so Saul said, go, and may the Lord be with you. [00:05:44] Yeah. Because what else are you gonna say? Y. [00:05:50] And so Saul put armor on David, and it was, like, really heavy. And David was like, I can't walk in these. So they took it off of him because he wasn't used to it. And all David took was his staff and his sling, and he chose five smooth stones. [00:06:11] Then he went and approached Golad. So he has a staff. Like, probably his herding staff. Yeah. [00:06:19] And then he has his sling, which is like. [00:06:23] Oh, like a slingshot. Mm. So in the five smooth stones, they're probably, like, little pebbles. They're probably about the size of your palm. Yeah. So. Yeah. Crazy. And then he was like, okay, I'm gonna go face Goliath now. Yeah. And so David says to Goliath, he says, you come against me with a sword and spear, but I come against you in the name of the Lord of armies. [00:06:47] And you have defied him. Today the Lord will hand you over to me. Then all the world will know that Israel has a God, that the battle is the Lord's. Amen. Amen. Preach, preach, preach. Like, imagine, like, his. Like, once again, his confidence. Like, that's just. Yeah. And his faith, like, unwavering, is crazy. Yes, yes, yes. And then finally, like, Goliath ran at him, and David ran towards him as well. [00:07:18] And just imagine, like, the fee 5. [00:07:21] Like, I imagine, like, slow motion. Yes. Real. Yeah. And then finally, David pulled out the stone, slung it, by the way. He had five of them. He pulled out one, slung it, hit Goliath smack on the forehead, right in between the eyebrows, in between the eyes, and Goliath fell forward to the ground and died. [00:07:43] He hit him so hard. [00:07:47] Like, imagine how hard that fall was. [00:07:51] That's crazy. Yeah. [00:07:54] Okay. And David, he. [00:07:56] Throughout the story, we just see his conf. [00:07:58] And his courage through the Lord, and we can just see that just how powerful God is. Through that, through the battle of him defeating Goliath, David understood that it didn't matter what armor or weapon that he had. Right. He had a stone. Yeah, he had a little stone. [00:08:20] But God. [00:08:22] God was over that battle, and he took control of it, and he was on David's side. [00:08:31] Okay, I have one question for you guys, and it is, can we still have courage even when we are scared? [00:08:42] And why? [00:08:43] So think about that. If you want to talk to people about it, that would be great, too. You could write it in your notebook. Write it, share it, think on it. [00:08:52] But that was my only question for today. Yes. [00:08:57] Okay. Well, all right, guys. That's all we have for you today. Deuces stink. [00:09:05] Okay, bye. For real?
