[00:00:00] Speaker A: Foreign.
Welcome to the Summer Journey podcast with Haven and Ella.
[00:00:17] Speaker B: Here you go, guys.
Okay, before we get started today, we're gonna go. You guys should just be used to this by now. We're gonna go over the code word from last week.
Do you want to tell them what it was, Haven? A lot of you might have gotten it, because it was pretty easy. I think we said it at least 70 times.
[00:00:42] Speaker A: We said it so many times.
Okay, so the code word was.
It was mercy.
[00:00:50] Speaker B: Mercy, yes.
[00:00:53] Speaker A: No surprise about it.
[00:00:57] Speaker B: Okay, so today. Yeah. So last week, we talked about David showing mercy to Saul, and then today we're learning about David becoming king.
If I couldn't breathe.
Okay. So all the tribes of Israel came to David and said, even while Saul was king, you were our true leader in battle.
And we know that the Lord said. We know that the Lord said you would be king over Israel.
So after they told him that, they anointed David king over Israel.
[00:01:35] Speaker A: So, like, it finally happened. Yeah. This was. I believe this was years after, like, David was told that he would be next king, which is crazy. How long he waited and how patiently he waited.
[00:01:49] Speaker B: And, like, the people knew, too. Like, we knew you were a true leader. Like, we saw coming.
[00:01:55] Speaker A: We.
Yeah, like, God was building up his status even before he was king.
And then. So when king. Well, when King David. So now it's changed. King David no longer Shepherd David. It's King David now made himself at home in his palace.
He said to the prophet Nathan, look, I am living in this amazing palace while the ark of God sits inside a tent. He wanted to build a permanent house or temple for God.
So he looked around, and he was like, there's no more battles.
Like, why do we have a palace and not a place for God?
So that was, like, a big thing he wanted to do.
[00:02:40] Speaker B: Yeah.
Okay. That night, the Lord said to Nathan, go to my servant David and say, you want me to build a house?
For now, I have been living with a tent. With a tent as my dwelling. I have never once asked anyone to build me a permanent house.
[00:03:02] Speaker A: So basically, God was telling Nathan. So he was like, nathan, go up to David and say, you want to build me a house?
Okay. But I like, God has been living with his people in a tent and has been dwelling in those people.
And so he's never once, like, asked anyone to build him a permanent house. Because God lives in us.
So God doesn't need a permanent house. God's people do. And so Ella will tell you more about what happened next. Yeah.
[00:03:34] Speaker B: Okay. So. And then he said, so now tell David, instead of you building me a house, I.
I will build you a house, and I will raise up a descendant from your family, and I will establish his kingdom. He will build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.
[00:03:54] Speaker A: So, like, they're gonna provide houses for their people, which is God's people, because we're all God's people. And I think it's like that one verse.
I don't know if you guys have heard it or not, but it's like, as for me and my house, we're gonna serve the Lord. Yes. So it's like God will be dwelling in the people's houses in their family. Yeah. Which is, like, super strong. Like, that's really good.
[00:04:19] Speaker B: So then when David heard these words, he went and sat in the Lord's presence and said, who am I that you have brought me this far? God, you have done great things, but they are nothing contrary compared to what you will do in the future.
[00:04:33] Speaker A: That's so good.
[00:04:34] Speaker B: That is good.
[00:04:35] Speaker A: Very good.
[00:04:37] Speaker B: He said, you are great, and there is no one like you. You rescued Israel to make a great name for yourself and performed great and awesome acts to show your power and love for your people. May your words to me come true, just as you have promised, so that your name will be exalted forever.
[00:04:53] Speaker A: That's amazing.
[00:04:55] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:04:56] Speaker A: Like, David had stayed humble through this whole thing, and all he can say is, who am I to have received all of this from you? Who, Like, I was just a shepherd boy, but you had great plans.
[00:05:12] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:05:13] Speaker A: Like, that's crazy.
Yeah.
So just like, we talked about with, like, the houses and stuff, I kind of touched on it a little bit, but I want to go back and emphasize that God wants to dwell with his people, because God was there in every situation, in every battle and every fight, and he wants to continue to be there and have a relationship with us. So he wants to dwell with his people at all times.
[00:05:44] Speaker B: Yeah.
And also another point is how we can look forward to the great things that God will do.
[00:05:51] Speaker A: Right.
[00:05:52] Speaker B: David wanted to build a temple for God. Right. A house.
But God told him. He even told him, but that he had bigger plans. And we see today what those bigger plans were. Right. Jesus dying on the cross for us. Like, we see his bigger plans unfold every day. Right. Better than our own plans.
[00:06:15] Speaker A: Yeah.
And, like, one of the biggest things with this entire story is God keeps his promises. God kept his promise from the beginning to the end. The timing may be different than what David might have thought or anyone else might have thought. But God continued to keep his promise.
And he does that, like, whether we think, like, okay, well, he promised me this, but it hasn't happened. We'll just wait on God's timing. Like, if it's God's will, it will be done time after time, like he has shown.
And let's see. Oh, so we've talked about the excitement that comes from knowing that God keeps his promises.
And so David must have been so excited by the thought of God placing one of his descendants on the throne forever.
And, like, because that's what God said to him. He was like, I will.
Like, whenever he's talking about the houses, he specifically said, one of his descendants will reign forever.
And. But we might not always feel excited by God's words to us.
We might want to feel. We might feel inadequate for the job God gives us. Like, David was just a shepherd boy. He might have felt, like, not ready for. To be king, but God put in place for him to be ready whenever God called him to be ready. And I think that's important.
Or we may doubt that God will do what he says. Like, we don't. Like, we don't know until he does what he says.
We can be honest about every response we have because God already knows what's in our heart.
So I just encourage you to think about that stuff and, like, how you can deal with your doubt and deal with. With the feeling of inadequacy or just not ready yet. And I just encourage you to think of ways to deal with that. Like, I can give you some ways, or you can write them down and share with us on Sunday or ask us on Sunday. We would love to, like, answer those questions for you, but just to think about that during the week.
[00:08:27] Speaker B: Yeah, that's all we have for you guys. We hope you guys. You guys are having a good summer. Good summer break. It's going by real fast.
[00:08:38] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah, it is.
[00:08:40] Speaker B: But we got. We hope you guys have a good week and we'll see you next week.
[00:08:44] Speaker A: All right.
[00:08:44] Speaker B: Bye.
[00:08:45] Speaker A: Bye.
