[00:00:00] Speaker A: Foreign. [00:00:06] Speaker B: Hey, welcome to the Summer Journey podcast with Haven and Ella. [00:00:17] Speaker A: Hey, guys. Welcome back to our podcast. [00:00:20] Speaker B: It's episode. What? Five? [00:00:22] Speaker A: Yeah. Five. [00:00:23] Speaker B: Sweet. [00:00:24] Speaker A: Yes. We're so glad you guys are listening. So we're gonna go ahead and get. [00:00:28] Speaker B: Started, but first we gotta do the code words. The code word for last week was. [00:00:36] Speaker A: Heart. [00:00:38] Speaker B: And I also would like to actually shout out someone who has gotten the code word every single week. And it's very impressive, and that is Tyler Gage. Good job, Tyler Gage. Come see us on Sunday. I might have a treat for you. So now let's get started. [00:00:55] Speaker A: Yes. So today we're talking about how David played for Saul. Okay, so it starts off where the spirit of the Lord had left Saul and an evil spirit began to torment him. So Saul's servant said to him, you see that an evil spirit is tormenting you. Let's let us look for something. Whoa. Let us look for someone who knows how to play the lyre, which. [00:01:22] Speaker B: A lyre is like a type of harp, so it's like. Like fancy, I guess. One of the young men answered, I have seen a son of Jesse from Beth Bethlehem, and who knows how to play the lyre? And so he came and he said, the Lord is with him. And then Saul was like, okay, awesome. Send me your son David, who is with the sheep. So this is the same David that we learned last week has been anointed to be the next king. But Saul doesn't know this. [00:01:55] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:01:56] Speaker B: So he's like, okay, he'll play the lyre for me and, like, ward off the Eve spirits. Because the Lord is with him. [00:02:02] Speaker A: Yes. [00:02:03] Speaker B: And then. [00:02:04] Speaker A: And so when David came to Saul, he began to serve him. Saul loved him very much. And David became an armor barrier. Saul sent word to Jesse and said, let David remain in my service, for he has found favor with me. Anytime the evil spirit came on Saul, David would pick up his lyre and play. Then Saul would feel better and the evil spirit would leave him. So God gives us the gifts so we can bless each other with the gifts that he gives us. [00:02:36] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:02:36] Speaker A: Just like David in his gift to play the lyre. [00:02:40] Speaker B: Right. And like some of your guys gifts might be like sports or dancing or art and all of that stuff. And like, God has given you those gifts so you can go out and glorify him and bless others while you're doing it. [00:02:53] Speaker A: Yeah. And we can, like we said, like, super. Serve them just like. Right. David served King Saul. He served him through his gifts. And Saul found favor in him, and he loved him because of it. [00:03:08] Speaker B: And the cool thing about that was Saul didn't know that David was anointed the next king. And so David was just like, okay, yeah, I'll serve you, and I'll serve you, knowing that I'm next in line to be king. But he didn't, like, gloat about it or anything. He just, like, played his leer for him and did these things. He basically was second in command because he was holding, like, the armor and stuff, so he was right next to Saul at all times. And so, like. But he took that job very well, and he humbled himself before Saul because that was God's plan. [00:03:45] Speaker A: Yeah. So just like, how David served kings, King Saul, it also points to how Jesus faithfully served us. Us? [00:04:02] Speaker B: Yeah, us. [00:04:04] Speaker A: God. [00:04:05] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:04:05] Speaker A: He. [00:04:06] Speaker B: Because he. There was a time where, like, Jesus was, like, washing people's feet, like, the lowest of low, and he's washing their feet and, like, all of this stuff. And so it's just. He humbled himself before the Lord and did his work here on earth when he didn't have to. And so it was kind of like he did that humbly in everything he did, without question. He was like, yes, God, I'll do it. Yes, God, I'll do it. [00:04:34] Speaker A: And I mean, the biggest. The biggest way he served his people was by dying on the cross for us, serving us, taking our sin away from us. [00:04:49] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:04:49] Speaker A: Yes. Okay. Haven, what stood out to you? [00:04:54] Speaker B: I think just the part that David knowingly, like, knowing that he was going to be the next king, he still just, like, sat there and played the leader for this man who was filled with evil spirits instead of just saying, I'm below, like, this is below me, or like, something like that. And it's just like, he had the patience to just wait on the Lord's timing. I think that was really big. [00:05:17] Speaker A: My favorite part is just the way that we. I mean, we can use anything and everything to glorify God. I mean, he used a lear. [00:05:25] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:05:25] Speaker A: He used an instrument. [00:05:26] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:05:27] Speaker A: Like, there are so many resources, so many ways that we can bring the glory to God and also serve each other while we are on earth. [00:05:36] Speaker B: Absolutely. [00:05:37] Speaker A: So just. Just the way that. It was the tiniest thing. It was a lear. Like, yeah, like what? Like, that's just so cool to me. So it really makes me think of, wow, how can I serve others every day with the resources that I'm given? [00:05:52] Speaker B: Yeah, that's good. Yeah. Okay. [00:05:55] Speaker A: And before we go, we want to give you a question for you to think along the weekend. And after you listen to this podcast, you can write it in your notes, in your booklet. Our question is, what are some ways a person might demonstrate service serving others? How can they demonstrate that? [00:06:18] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:06:19] Speaker A: Write it in your. You could write it in your little summer pack, or you can even tell us. [00:06:23] Speaker B: Yeah. And I challenge you guys to, like, not only just write it down, but do, like, act. Yeah. [00:06:31] Speaker A: Yeah. I mean, you can serve your families, you can serve your siblings. You can serve in so many ways. [00:06:38] Speaker B: Yeah. At school and. Yeah. Okay, well, I think that was it. So back for episode six. Bye.
