[00:00:00] Speaker A: Foreign.
[00:00:06] Speaker B: Hey, welcome to the Summer Journey podcast with Taven and Ella.
[00:00:17] Speaker A: Hi, guys. It is episode three, Episode Trace.
Today we're talking about how Saul disobeyed God, which we kind of talked about him disobeying God last week.
[00:00:34] Speaker B: Right.
[00:00:34] Speaker A: Just a little bit. But now we're really.
[00:00:37] Speaker B: Remind me what he did last week.
I was asking because I forgot.
That was awkward. Okay.
[00:00:48] Speaker A: Okay. Yes. Last week we talked about how Saul was impatient.
[00:00:53] Speaker B: Yes. Yes.
[00:00:54] Speaker A: So now we're talking about how he disobeyed God. Yes.
[00:00:57] Speaker B: His impatience led to where we are right now.
[00:01:01] Speaker A: Yes.
Inhaven.
Tell them the code word.
[00:01:06] Speaker B: Oh, shoot, I forgot the code word. Time for the code word.
[00:01:13] Speaker A: It was patience.
Okay, so let's get into it. Yep.
[00:01:23] Speaker B: So Samuel comes up to Saul.
So Saul has been with his army and all this stuff. They've been, like, doing God's will of destroying places, fighting armies. Yeah. Like, all that. All that fun, fun stuff.
[00:01:36] Speaker A: So fun.
[00:01:37] Speaker B: So fun.
So Samuel comes up to Saul and he shares what the Lord has told him. Said God said, I remember what the Amalekites. Guys, I cannot read. Nor can I. Amalekites. Anyways, Amalekites did to Israel many years ago.
Now attack them and completely destroy them. Do not leave any of their animals alive.
So he was specific.
[00:02:07] Speaker A: Complete. Yes.
[00:02:08] Speaker B: Like the whole thing. Destroy everything. Not even an animal is to live.
[00:02:13] Speaker A: Yes. So Saul and his army attacked the Makolites. Yep. And they captured King again. Agig aig. And they kept. They kept the best of the sheep, cattle, and other animals alive. They were not willing to. Wait, hold on. Wait, wait, wait, wait. They kept. They did.
[00:02:33] Speaker B: Wait. What were they supposed to do?
[00:02:34] Speaker A: They were supposed to not leave any of the animals alive. Shoot. So red flag. Red flag.
Yes.
So the Lord instructs us all and his troops to completely destroy the Amalekites. But Saul disobeyed.
[00:02:54] Speaker B: So Samuel became angry, and he went to go confront Saul. So when Saul.
Wow, that's a tongue twister. When Saul saw Saul. When Saul saw Samuel come, he said, may the Lord bless you. I have done what God asked.
And Samuel replied, then why do I hear the sounds of sheeps and goats and cattles?
So basically, he's just like, wait, hold on. Like, you got a sheet behind you.
Like, okay, sure you did. Sure, buddy. That's basically saying, sure, buddy.
[00:03:27] Speaker A: Yeah. And then Saul said, the troops brought the animals from the Immaculates. We plan to sacrifice them to the Lord. Oh.
[00:03:36] Speaker B: Oh. Samuel said, stop.
Stop.
Last night, the Lord said that he sent you on a mission and Told you to completely destroy them.
So why didn't you obey the Lord?
[00:03:48] Speaker A: Yeah.
So we know, or we see how obedience is more valuable to God than sacrifices. Because, like, oh, well, no, we're gonna. We're gonna sacrifice them to the Lord. No, but God said to destroy all of them, right?
[00:04:06] Speaker B: And he was like, well, I did do that. Like, I destroyed the people I just kept. And I destroyed most of the animals. I just kept a couple for myself.
[00:04:13] Speaker A: I did a little of what he said. Not all of it.
[00:04:16] Speaker B: Come on now.
[00:04:18] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:04:19] Speaker B: But partial obedience is still disobedience. So since he didn't do or complete exactly what the Lord had said, he still was disobeying God. So, like, have you ever. I'm trying to think, like, yeah, I'm trying to think, oh, my gosh, clean my room.
I've been asked to clean my room, and I'm like, oh, yeah, let me just clean. Clean it up. Make my bed a little bit and then shove everything in the closet.
Everything in my closet. But the room looks clean and all of that. But you open the door and everything falls out. A bunch of stuff in my closet. It's kind of like what he was doing. He was like, well, we did everything.
But then you open his closet and.
[00:05:01] Speaker A: You see a bunch of animals. That's good. That's good.
Yes. It's always like, I did obey.
[00:05:07] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:05:08] Speaker A: And then Samuel replied, does the Lord take more pleasure in sacrifices of animals or in obedience?
To obey is better than sacrifice because you have been rejected of the word of the Lord. He has rejected you as king.
[00:05:25] Speaker B: So, I mean, he was supposed to be obedient, but he was disobedient. And I think a lot of times we are also disobedient, which is hard to say, but it's true.
[00:05:39] Speaker A: Yeah.
Because we're sinners. We sin. We disobey God's command because. Or when we sin.
[00:05:47] Speaker B: Right.
So when we talked about last week about Saul sacrificing the animals because he was impatient. Well, as we've learned, like, his obedience was more valuable to God than the sacrifices. So just like last week, we learned that he sacrificed. And God didn't like that because that's not what he was supposed to do. Well, he does it again. And God was like, hey, like, look, I'd rather have your obedience and your whole heart than these sacrifices.
[00:06:19] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:06:20] Speaker B: So with that, that's all we have for this week.
[00:06:25] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:06:26] Speaker B: We'll be checking again next week for code words. Code words, shout outs, all the fun stuff, stuff.
And just keep track of how many you get ready? Cuz we are going to be doing a collaboration with one of or two of you guys.
So we will see you next week. Yes, bye.
