[00:00:05] Speaker B: Hey, welcome to the Summer Journey podcast with Haven and Ella.
[00:00:17] Speaker A: Hey, guys. Hey, guys.
[00:00:18] Speaker B: Welcome to episode 10.
[00:00:21] Speaker A: Today we're going to be talking about how Solomon became king.
And then our code word for last week was. Do you know what, David?
[00:00:30] Speaker B: It was confession.
[00:00:34] Speaker A: Confession. So if you got that right, great job. We're so proud of you.
Okay, so we'll just get right in.
Okay. So when David had grown old, he called for his son Solomon, to give him this message. It says, be strong, my son, and keep your promise to the Lord to walk in his ways and obey his commandments. If you do, you will have success in everything you do, and the Lord will keep his promise to our family.
[00:01:04] Speaker B: And then David died, and Solomon became king over Israel.
So one night, the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream. God said, ask, what should I give you?
[00:01:17] Speaker A: And Solomon replied, you have shown great and faithful love to my father, David, because he was faithful to you and had a right heart before you. You have continued to show faithful love to him by giving him a son to sit on his throne.
[00:01:33] Speaker B: You have now made me king in my father's place, but have no experience in leadership. I'm younger than most of the people I lead, so give me a heart to judge and people to tell the difference between good and evil.
[00:01:48] Speaker A: So the Lord was pleased with Solomon's request. And he said, because you have asked for wisdom to lead well instead of long life or riches, I will give you a wise and understanding heart. You will be wiser than anyone who has ever lived before. In addition, I will give you riches in honor. If you walk in my ways and keep my command, I will give you a long life.
[00:02:12] Speaker B: And then Solomon woke up and realized it was all a dream. So he went into Jerusalem, stood before the Ark of the Lord's covenant, and presented burnt offerings.
[00:02:24] Speaker A: Yes. Okay. From this story, we saw how Solomon asked God to give him wisdom.
We could do the same thing. We could pray and ask God for wisdom to lead us in life, in all the ways.
[00:02:44] Speaker B: And then, as we're asking for wisdom, the reason we would ask for wisdom is because we need it to lead and like, lead a godly life.
So Solomon looked to God for wisdom so he could make his decisions. Because he said he was younger and that he wanted to make sure that he is wise. Because even when you're young, you can still be wise.
[00:03:07] Speaker A: Yes.
And so in order to ask for wisdom and be wise, we must humble ourselves before the Lord, so he will.
He will bless us with wisdom, just like Solomon. He understood that he could not be a wise king without God leading him through it.
[00:03:33] Speaker B: So just like we need wisdom in life, we also need Jesus because Jesus is wisdom. We can't have wisdom without having Jesus. And so if Jesus is wisdom, he leads us into eternal life as long as we accept him. So if you want wisdom, you have to pray for Jesus. And so that's really cool because we were given wisdom through Jesus, just like we were given forgiveness and love and all of these other things.
[00:04:01] Speaker A: Yeah. And also like when they say wisdom, it's not like, oh, like I'm so wise and I know how to live my life. Right. Like, no, it's a wisdom that comes from God. Yeah. And that betters his kingdom and betters your relationship with him as well. Yeah.
It's a, it's a different type of wisdom than earthly things. Yeah.
[00:04:28] Speaker B: Yeah. It's not like your book smart and you know all the answers to the math questions and science questions.
[00:04:33] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:04:34] Speaker B: It's like, no. Like you have like heavenly wisdom.
[00:04:38] Speaker A: Yes. And it's like also how God speaks to you. Like he gives you new thoughts. Like he.
[00:04:45] Speaker B: Right.
[00:04:46] Speaker A: Or new ways to think of scripture and all the things. Yeah, yeah.
Okay.
What was your favorite thing of this story, Hayden?
[00:04:56] Speaker B: My takeaway would be that with. We didn't really mention this, but like it kind of goes on with the stories. Like Solomon asked for wisdom and then later on, like in the Bible, Solomon becomes the most wise man.
[00:05:10] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:05:10] Speaker B: Which I think is incredibly powerful because it's like he asked for wisdom and he like kept with God's word and humbled himself. And so God blessed him with that.
[00:05:21] Speaker A: Yeah, that's what I was gonna say.
Because a lot of people want the wisdom for themselves and like, so that other people see just how wise they are. Yeah. But like Solomon, he humbled himself. He knew that he couldn't do it without God leading him. And so it's a good reminder to be like Solomon and to humble yourself and ask God for wisdom not for your.
Your own, not for your own kingdom, but God's kingdom. Right? Yeah.
[00:05:55] Speaker B: That's good.
[00:05:57] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:05:58] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:05:59] Speaker A: Okay. So a question before you go. It says, what are some ways a person might demonstrate wisdom? Yeah. So if you want to, you could write in your notebook or your summer back the.
[00:06:13] Speaker B: Or you could tell us, talk to us. Or like talk to your friends about it and be like, what did you think?
[00:06:18] Speaker A: Yeah.
Okay. Well, that's all we have for you guys today.
[00:06:22] Speaker B: And if you heard any background noise, it's cuz we're at the high school. Right.
[00:06:25] Speaker A: Now.
[00:06:25] Speaker B: And the band is playing.
[00:06:28] Speaker A: Band is playing. Basketball's going on. Yeah.
[00:06:31] Speaker B: So sorry.
[00:06:33] Speaker A: One day y' all will be here. Yeah.
Okay. Bye, guys. Bye.
It.
